Sandy Creek RanchCentral Coast, California

A private estate on a working California ranch.

Nineteen hundred acres of oak hills and vineyard north of Paso Robles, host to a limited number of celebrations each year.

The ranch

Rare, and meant to stay that way.

Sandy Creek Ranch sits in the oak hills of Indian Valley, north of Paso Robles: nineteen hundred acres of vineyard, pasture, and ridgeline, worked as a ranch long before it hosted a celebration.

At its center is a private estate: a barn and its courtyard, a ceremony ridge, a lawn beneath the hills, a pool terrace, a saloon, and a collection of guest quarters. Sandy Creek Ranch hosts a limited number of weddings each year, so the estate is never turned over from one celebration to the next.

The spaces

A ceremony ridge, a lawn, a barn, and a saloon that keeps its own hours.

The estate holds a setting for each part of a celebration, all within a short walk of one another and of the rooms where guests sleep. The whole weekend happens in one place, on its own clock.

After dark

The evening moves indoors, and keeps going.

A saloon with a proper back bar. A game room beneath a wagon-wheel chandelier. A staircase that has seen its share of toasts. When dinner ends, nobody is calling a car.
